The Extraordinary Form Latin Mass has been part of our Potsdam parish for over ten years. Listed here are a few things that make this Mass different from the Ordinary Form (English Mass):
Communion is received on the tongue while kneeling at the communion rail. The priest leads us as he offers the sacrifice of the Mass turned toward God at the high altar. The choir sings traditional hymns along with chant. Serving with the priest are altar boys who follow very specific rubrics.
As suggested by the title, much of the Mass is in Latin. However, there is no need to know Latin to fully enjoy the Mass-- red books with a Latin to English translation are available at the back of the church.
All scripture readings are in English, as well as the homily.
Another good approach to worshipping at this Mass is to observe and absorb the beauty and quiet while offering your personal prayers.
The Extraordinary Form is offered every Sunday at 9:00 AM at Saint Mary's in Potsdam.
Holy Days of Obligation in the Extraordinary Form will have dates and times in the bulletin.
